The third Glen Heath Tuli auction was held on the farm of Gordon Gilfillan in the Middelburg district on 24th September. 44 buyers registered at the beautiful venue which had been upgraded since the 2014 sale

Once again the top quality offering of 25 bulls was in demand, especially from commercial farmers who have seen the advantages of the breed. The bulls sold in a range from R15000 up to R35000 which was achieved for the bull Patch who had been used extensively in the herd. The buyer was Dankbaar Safaris from Gauteng who also bought the second highest price bull, lot4 for R32000. The average for the day on a 100% sale was R25208-00 which compared very favorably with other Tuli sales in South Africa.

The female sale proved to be a lot tougher with limited demand for open heifers but good quality  pregnant cows sold extremely well averaging R12450-00. Colin Raath from Cradock bought lot46, an 8 months pregnant cow for R22000 and Dankbaar Safaris bought 5 cows for an average of R11600.

Co owners of the stud Gordon Gillfillan and Dave Mullins must be congratulated on the quality of the animals on offer and the magnificent auction facility which proves beyond doubt that they are serious about the breed and are planning to supply quality stock into the market for years to come.

Hobson & Co were the auctioneers for the sale and were delighted with the outcome of the sale.

Paul Hobson, a director of the company mentioned that they have a special relationship with this herd as he has helped market the auction since 2003 with Dave Mullins when the sale was held in Grahamstown as Avondale Tulis, then when it moved to Murraysburg as Great Karoo Tulis. He believes that in time this herd will be recognized as one of the top herds in the country.
