A carnival atmosphere reigned at the recent Osterloh Brahman and East Coast Beefmaster sale held on 8th September on the farm Lincoln in the Komga district. 105 buyers from throughout South Africa registered at the auction run by Hobson and Co with Andrew Miller as the auctioneer. There was a strong contingent of buyers from Natal, the Southern Cape and Grahamstown where bidding was brisk from the outset on a high quality offering. Sellers Eugene Osterloh of Osterloh Brahmans and Beefmasters and Pierre Hart of Amberdene Beefmasters offered 33 Brahman bulls, 26 Beefmaster bulls and 2 Borman bulls where most bulls sold in a range between R30 000 and R40 000. The Brahmans averaged R35 863, the Beefmasters R36 739 and the Bormans R27500 on a 100% sale. Top price achieved for the Brahmans was R57 500 for lot 2, an outstanding potential stud sire which was bought by Danie du Plessis of Dundee. Lots 9 and 36 were the highest priced Beefmaster bulls which were both bred by Amberdene and were both bought by Dawie du Plessis of Swartberg.
