Classic Cattle Sale 10 September 2013

The classic Cattle Auction was held at the Hobson & Co Auction Yard in Grahamstown on Tuesday 10 September under very trying climatic and economic conditions. Fortunately a quality offering of Simbra , Simmentaler and Angus cattle were in demand with good prices being fetched for the bulls and above average prices for the females.
Andrew Masterson’s Milagro Simmentaler Bulls demanded interest from throughout the country and he achieved the highest average of any Simmentaler sale in SA this year. He averaged R30375 for his 9 Bulls with a highest price of R50000 paid by PJ Hazzard of Natal.
His offering of 4 Angus bulls was also in demand, with an average of R30250 being achieved. Bull van Rensburg from Paterson bought Lot 17 , a beautiful Black bull for R40000.
James and Rob Parker, first time sellers on the auction sold a good value for money red Angus bull for R20000.
Frik van Rooyen of Kleinemonde Simbras had 7 Simbra bulls on sale which were sold for an average of R24166 . Philippe GOP Marketing CC paid the top price of R33000 for Lot15.
The female sellers were expecting a “blood nose” because of the climatic conditions, but against all expectations Simbra type cattle sold exceptionally well. See table for prices . Dave Cockcroft of Hobson & Co was absolutely delighted with the outcome of the auction which proved that there is still confidence in the beef industry . He also commented that it showed that quality always has a value and farmers were heeding the advice that it is very important to farm with the best possible stock you can afford
