The 20th Osterloh & Trollope Bull & Production Sale was held at Lincoln near Komga on 9th August.
A huge offering of 53 pure Manso Osterloh Brahman bulls, 23 Osterloh Beefmaster bulls & 14 Bonhaven Hereford bulls belonging to guest seller Justin Phillips came under the hammer of well known auctioneer Andrew Miller. A limited offering of Mistley Red & Osterloh Beefmaster open heifers were also sold together with impressive Mistley Red slaughter cows and 14 Brahman X Nguni weaner heifers from Glenam Knott.
The auction confounded all the negative talk doing the rounds about drought & markets being under pressure by attracting 113 potential buyers from throughout the country. Apart from local interest there was a strong contingent of buyers from Natal, the OFS & Mpumalanga.
The quality of the bulls was outstanding on a 100% sale and bidding was brisk on all lots where there was certainly something to suit everybody’s taste and budget.
The highlight of the sale was when a half share in lot 4, the proven Brahman stud sire OBS 14-225 was sold to Tim Hempson for R200 000. Another highlight was lot 3 which sold for R100 000 to San Souci Farming.
It was also heartening to see the continued strong support from local commercial farmers who realize the advantage of buying these tough no nonsense bulls from these well established studs.
